GUIDE TO AUTHORS
The Journal of Nature Studies, the official primry and scientific publication of the Philippine Society for the Study of Nature, Inc. (PSSN) is an annual, peer-reviewed journal in English that publishes reports of original research in the natural and applied sciences (biology and its allied fields including studies on social sciences as related to nature and the environment). It also publishes notes and reviews on relevant and timely subjects on nature. The Journal of Nature Studies aims to cater to global orinternational readership thus the abroad composition of its Board of Editors/Reviewers. One volume a year may be published but supplements may be issued anytime as necessary.
Preferably, at least one of the submitting authors must be an active member or honorary fellow of the PSSN in order to publish in this journal. This rule, however, may be relaxed for manuscripts of exemplary and meritorious quality and subject to approval by the Board of Editors. Manuscripts should not be considered for publication elsewhere once submitted to the journal.
A consensus of at least two editors is needed for approval to publish. The decision of the Board of Editors and Reviewers to accept or reject a manuscript is final.
Page charges are required of authors to subsidize limited funds of the PSSN, rates will be indicated and provided to the submitting author once a manuscript is accepted for publication. Similarly, fees for colored photos (figures) if desired will be shouldered by the author/s, the latter will be entitled to at least a copy of the journal but extra copies or reprints may be arranged with the Editor.
The following format is suggested: Title, Author/s, Position and Institutional Address including telephone numbers or email, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methodology or Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion (or Results and Discussion), Summary, Conclusion, and Recommendations (if necessary), References, and Acknowledgment.
Author/s citation in the text must be by family name and year (e.g. Demayo 2007 or Demayo and Torres (2007) for two authors and when more than two authors, Demayo et al 2007). In the list of references, authors must be arranged alphabetically.
Tables, ilustrations, and figures/photos must be numbered consecutively and each typed or pasted (for photo prints) in a separate page. Titles of tables and captions of figures, must be self-explanatory, specific, and must be understood independently of the text, clear, and camera-ready to fit in the journal size and format.
Check a recent copy of the journal for more details on format and style. Submit manuscript to the Editor by post or courier in three hard copies together with either a compact disc, USB stick or flash disc, or as email attachment.
Membership of the Philippine Society for the Study of Nature, Inc (PSSN) is open to all students, professionals, and institutions whose interests include the various aspects of nature and the environment. Contact any of the officers or Board of Trustees of PSSN for more information. Subscription rates/orders may be arranged with the Editor.
