Poster guidelines

GUIDELINES FOR POSTER PRESENTATION
(After PSSN 2nd Annual Scientific Meeting, Baguio City)

A poster should be well organized, self-explanatory, attractive, and should present a few major ideas. It should not overwhelm the audience with data or explanations and the discussion should present the interpretation and significance of the results. Give the viewer one or two important conclusions.

Size of poster. The whole poster should fit into a standard 30" by 40" (76 cm x 102 cm) poster board.

Title of poster. All caps, except for scientific names that should be written in italics, first letter of the genus capitalized, centered. Use letters equivalent to 72 points (about 2 cm) for the main title and 40 points (less than 1 cm) for the subtitle.

Author's or authors' name/s. Should be in full, all caps and centered. Use 40 points. Affiliation/address should be caps and lower case, in italics and centered.

Abstract. Abstracts should be typed double space, in 12 point size, and the print must be clear and readily legible. Abstracts should be followed by 5-10 key words for information retrieval purposes.

Text. Use type letters that are at least 20 points (about 6 mm high). Use simple typeface. Use upper and lower case standard letters. Be sure to make use of new printer ribbon if you do not have laser or ink jet printers.

Text colors. Use no more than two colors. Good color combinations are black on white, black on yellow, black on pink, dark red on white, dark blue on white, and dark blue on yellow. The best is a dark type on a light background because it is easiest to read.

Illustrations, Tables, Graphs, & Photographs. Should be 5" x 7" (12.5 cm x 18 cm). Labels and captions on illustrations should be readable even from two meters away. Avoid also unnecessary detail. The illustration should speak for itself. Graphs are preferable to tables.

Organization. The organization and design should flow smoothly and sequentially from one part to the next. Arrows may be used to help the eye move from one part to another, i.e. left to right, top to bottom.

Setting up of posters will be 1 to 5 pm. This year's theme is "Nurturing Nature for the Benefit of all."

NB: Certificates will be issued to all oral and poster paper presentors indicating titles of the same.
